UPDATE: Man accused of crimes against children captured

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Newton County Sheriff’s office has captured a man accused of multiple crimes against children.

Deputies said Ronnie Floyd Maxwell was taken into custody Sunday. Details about his arrest weren’t released.

“We thank all those who took the time to share and like our social media post, those who helped spread the word throughout the community, and those who provided us with any and all information regarding his whereabouts,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “Every share, like, and call helped lead to his arrest.”

Maxwell served a lengthy prison sentence for aggravated child molestation and was released in 2018.

The sheriff’s office said he is considered armed and dangerous.

Maxwell is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighs approximately 150 pounds and has a shaved head.

Channel 2′s Tom Regan was in Newnan, where he talked to Caitlin Jett with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

“We know that he is on foot, that he doesn’t have a vehicle,” Jett said. “He is in an area where vehicles are hard to get to. Possibly wooded areas under bridges and so forth.”

Authorities are afraid Maxwell may try to harm other children and are urging everyone to keep an eye out for him.

“We are receiving tips from people in the community who know him,” Jett said. “We’re asking people if they see him to give us a call.”

Newnan mom Michelle Rabish said she has faith Maxwell will be caught.

“We have wonderful law enforcement, and a lot of concerned citizens, and hopefully they will beat the bushes and find him,” Rabish said.

Authorities warn that if they see the suspect, do not approach him and call 911 immediately.

There is a $500 reward for information leading to his arrest. For any information on the whereabouts of Maxwell, you’re asked to please call Newton County Cpl. Grijalva.
