DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Kenya Jackson-Saulters calls it the most joyous time of her life. Until it wasn’t.

“I had may baby in December of 2024. During that time I felt more alone than I’ve every felt before,” Kenya said.
She was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia. It’s a condition involving very high blood pressure and several other serious symptoms. As she recovered, she says she realized the postpartum experience is all too common.
“This is a thing. Postpartum care is severely lacking for women,” Kenya said.
So she created a free app called My Postpartum Pal. It’s an emotional wellness companion designed to support moms. She launched it months before the Lindsay Clancy trial thrust postpartum mental health into the national spotlight.

“Some of the news we’re getting these days is on the heels of tragedy. I hate that this is how it’s becoming a national conversation, but I do feel like we’re now more aware,” Kenya said.
It’s not medical advice. Kenya calls it a support system. A resource she wishes she had after her daughter Cairo—who is now 21 months old—was born.
On Monday she used her phone to show Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen how the app works.
“You can just press this and it will talk to you,” Kenya said. “I know it doesn’t feel like it right now, but you are still you,” the app responded.
With around 1 in 8 women reporting symptoms of postpartum depression, Kenya says the app gives mothers a private space to check in and hear an encouraging voice when they need one.
“I’m grateful that there is now a light being shined on the experience of postpartum women,” Kenya said.
She calls My Postpartum Pal “a friend in your pocket.”
