CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — The City of Cartersville’s new Recreation Center will soon get some of its power from the sun, thanks to a partnership with Qcells.

Qcells, a global clean energy company with a presence in Northwest Georgia, donated the system as part of its ongoing community partnerships and investments.
Qcells has donated a complete rooftop solar panel system for the new facility, including installation, according to the city. Once operational, the system is expected to offset a portion of the center’s energy use and help reduce long-term operating costs.

The Recreation Center is being designed to serve thousands of Cartersville residents each year through youth sports, fitness programs, community events and other recreational activities.
City officials say incorporating solar energy into the facility will help make the center more energy efficient while supporting the city’s efforts to be responsible with taxpayer resources.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Qcells for their generous donation and partnership,” City Manager Dan Porta said. “This contribution is an investment in our community that will provide lasting benefits for years to come by helping reduce energy costs and allowing more resources to be directed toward serving our residents.”
The city said the solar installation is expected to create savings for the Recreation Center and the community for decades.
