Metro Atlanta city touts low property tax rate

The rate matches last year’s level and comes in below the rollback rate of 4.205 mills.

A millage rate calculates property tax obligations, with one mill representing $1 in tax for every $1,000 of assessed value. Fulton County determines local property assessments at 40% of fair market value, before any applicable exemptions.

State and local regulations permit the city to set a maintenance and operations millage rate up to a legal cap of 4.731 mills, placing the newly approved rate significantly below the maximum allowance.

Along with the maintenance and operations rate, the city council approved a separate greenspace bond millage rate of 0.309 mills on Monday. That rate is down slightly from 0.310 mills set in 2025.

Milton Mayor Peyton Jamison commented on the outcome of the vote and the city’s millage figures.

“It’s a good year when the rollback rate is higher than our current millage rate,” Jamison said.

The adopted 4.193 rate matches what the council approved in 2025, which marked a 4.47% decrease from the previous year.
