MARTA rail service resumes at Oakland City station after person hit, killed by train

ATLANTA — MARTA temporarily shut down rail service at the Oakland City station after a person was hit Monday afternoon.

It happened around 2:20 p.m. on the northbound tracks. MARTA police confirmed the person died. Track power is down between Lakewood and West End stations.

“MARTA Police are investigating but it appears the person jumped. MARTA Safety is on scene assisting MPD and Atlanta Fire Rescue,” MARTA said in a statement.

MARTA set up bus transportation from East Point to West End stations. The transportation agency also offered discounted Uber and Lyft rides with $8 credit. MARTA says it will be at least an hour before service is restored.

The name and age of the person who died have not been released.
