Gas station gunfire: Man chases down thief who stole from car, gets shot in process

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned that a man was rushed to the hospital Thursday night after he was shot at the QT gas station on Howell Mill Road.

The Atlanta Police Department told Channel 2′s Christian Jennings that a man and woman were using the air pump at the gas station when a suspect jumped out of a vehicle around 8 p.m.

Officials said the suspect then reached into the victims’ car and grabbed the woman’s purse. The man chased the suspect and caught up with him, but was then shot, according to police.

Following the chase, the suspect jumped into a black SUV with another man inside.

Atlanta police said the victim was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to Grady Hospital, where officials said the man is expected to recover.
