Man shot inside a Lyft by fellow passenger on I-85, police say

ATLANTA — A man has been critically injured after being shot while inside of a Lyft, according to police.

Atlanta police received a call of a person shot at around 7 p.m. at Interstate 85 Northbound at Cleveland Avenue.

Police on scene spoke with a Lyft driver who explained to them how things unfolded. The driver said he picked up the three passengers, two males and one female, and began heading to their scheduled destination.

The male passenger in the back seat pulled out a gun and shot the other male passenger in the front seat.

The shooter and the female passenger then fled by running across busy I-85.

A citizen stopped at the scene and transported the gunshot victim to the hospital.

The victim is listed in critical condition at an area hospital at this time.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The description of the suspect has not been released at this time.

City of Atlanta plans to use new technology to assist in gun detection to combat crime Shot Spotter developed the technology to help police identify when guns are fired in an area. It will contact the police within minutes of the detection.
