Long lines build outside local tag offices as they reopen from pandemic

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Drivers wanting to renew their license or tags in person are dealing with long lines.

Fulton County reopened its tag office Monday. The offices have been closed for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Channel 2 Action News received pictures from viewers showing dozens of people, in masks, waiting in lines outside the office. Many people brought out folding chairs to sit in while they waited.

Some people told us they had waited several hours. Most people told us they were trying to renew their driver’s license or vehicle registration.

“My tag is expired. I have no choice,” Ryan Martin said.

“They have no choice. You have senior citizens sitting out here. It’s ridiculous. This is a shame,” Freda Calhoun said.

Hours at the offices are extended and workers will take your information in line to speed things up. They also encourage people to use kiosks located inside six Kroger stores across metro Atlanta.

Masks are required and barriers are up to protect workers and customers.
