Driver killed after tractor-trailer overturns, hits guardrail on I-20

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia State Patrol shut down lanes of Interstate 20 to investigate a deadly crash in Douglas County.

Triple Team Traffic’s Mike Shields says the crash happened Thursday morning near the Lee Road exit in the westbound lanes. GSP confirmed to Channel 2 Action News This Morning that at least one person is dead.

NewsChopper 2 flew over the scene and spotted an overturned tractor-trailer and another vehicle involved. The name of the victim has not been released, but GSP confirmed the victim was the driver of the tractor-trailer.

According to investigators, the tractor-trailer driver was in the far-left lane and a Honda Accord was in the middle lane. The two vehicles collided, which sent the Accord off the interstate.

The tractor-trailer overturned and hit the guardrail on the shoulder. Troopers found a Nissan Altima that was abandoned not far from the scene. Investigators believe the Altima was also involved in the crash.

The crash is still under active investigation by the SCRT team on scene.
