HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — HENRY COUNTY - A judge ruled that Stockbridge Councilwoman Lakeshia Gantt cannot serve on the panel that will evaluate whether Mayor Jayden Williams faces charges.
Judge Gino Brogdon said Gantt should be removed because of concerns about bias, an email he described as a threat and her contacting family members.
Brogdon said Gantt went beyond an investigative role by contacting family members and “dishing out warnings.”
He also described an email as “clearly a threat,” including the line “you don’t want me as your enemy.”
“Mr. Kenner, I’m finding in your favor,” Brogdon said, adding that the councilwoman “shall not serve on this panel.”
Williams and his attorney, Robert Kenner, have argued the city denied the mayor due process while investigating misspending and sexual misconduct allegations against him.
They asked to have Gantt removed from an upcoming evidentiary hearing, arguing she had biases against the mayor and wanted him removed from office.
Williams’ grandmother and some Stockbridge residents testified they received phone calls and text messages from Gantt last month.
The mayor’s grandmother said Gantt tried to influence her to get Williams to resign. She said Gantt told her there were embarrassing allegations against the mayor and it was in his best interest to resign.
She testified the calls and text messages came before the investigative report was completed.
The city council is expected to release all gathered evidence from the mayor’s investigation on Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. at Stockbridge City Hall.
