That being said, the Mega Millions corporation reports that 3,428,412 people had winning tickets at every prize level except for the big jackpot. Nobody in Georgia won the game’s second prize, which is matching the five white lottery balls. Four people were lucky enough to match the five white balls, three of those four had the “Megaplier” attached to them, meaning those winners will collect $3 million each. The other winner will pocket $1 million.

The four lottery jackpots larger than this one all passed the $1 billion mark. The largest lottery prize in history was a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot won in January 2016. A $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot in October 2018 was won by someone in South Carolina and in January 2021, a Michigan resident walked away with a $1.05 billion jackpot.

There have been four Mega Millions jackpots won thus far in 2022. The largest of those was a $426 million winner in California in January, a $128 million winner in New York in March, a $110 million winner in Minnesota in April and a $15 million winner in Tennessee, also in April.
