Isolated showers and storms Friday, heavier rain and flooding risk later this weekend

ATLANTA — Rain returns to the forecast Friday with isolated showers and storms developing later this afternoon and into this evening.

More widespread rain is on the way for the rest of the weekend.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says there is a heavy rainfall risk Saturday into Sunday.

Showers and storms will have scattered coverage late Saturday, but it won’t be a complete washout. The rain will become more widespread Sunday.

By the end of the weekend, Nitz says many areas will have 1-2 inches of rainfall. Isolated spots with 3″+ may have localized flooding and can see a quick rise in street flooding and smaller creeks and streams.
