Fire at Henry County substation caused power outage for thousands

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Henry County Fire and Rescue confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that they were battling a fire at a substation at the intersection of GA-138 and Rock Quarry Road.

Channel 2′s Courtney Francisco was live on WSB Tonight at 11 p.m., where the fire was blazing.

Georgia Power released the following statement to Channel 2 Action News:

“We can confirm that a fire occurred at one of our substations in the Stockbridge area Sunday evening, impacting service to approximately 10,000 customers initially. Safety is our top priority, and we are currently working with local authorities to control and extinguish the fire while at the same time working to reroute power and restore service to customers as quickly as possible. A cause is not known at this time. Customers should continue to check out the Georgia Power Outage Map for the latest information on restoration.”

Channel 2 Actions News learned power was out for an undetermined amount of time, but the hospital utilized backup power to continue services.

Initially, 10,000 customers were affected.

According to the most recent update from Georgia Power, all customers have restored power.
