Dog, car recovered after Hall County couple says naked thief stole them

UPDATE: Braselton police said they recovered the dog and car at the Best Western in Braselton Sunday night. A suspect was taken into custody, Hall County sheriff's officials said.

A man brought to tears after he says a thief stole his car with his beloved dog inside.

He told Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez he wasn't just shocked that it happened in the driveway of his home, he said the female suspect was naked.

“It’s Father’s Day. (This) is like a son to me. Now he’s gone. I just want him back,” said Matt Sanders.

It happened around 8:30 Sunday morning outside of his home along Union Place.

Sanders describes the alleged thief as a woman in her 40's or 50's wearing only a yellow colored towel.

“I see this naked person sitting there. I started panicking,” he said.

Sanders said he was packing up his car, a 2012 silver Hyundai, so he could visit his dad on Father’s Day when he realized he forgot his cellphone inside the house.

He said he left Bear in the car with the air conditioner running.

“When I come back out, I go to open the door and it’s locked. I said take the car, I just want my dog," Sanders said. “Then she steps on the gas. And you see the tire marks. She starts spinning around here. The car's around and off down the road.”

Sanders never got the chance to see his father.

Instead he and his girlfriend spent seven hours searching the area for their car and shelters looking for little Bear.

“I just put my other dog to sleep on Friday, and then this. It’s just been too much. I just want my dog back," he said.

The thief got away in Sanders' 2012 silver Hyundai with Georgia license plate TMP-688. The four-door car has body damage to the bumper.

Deputies are combing the area for any witnesses and possible video of this woman in action.
