GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County woman lost the child she was carrying and broke several bones after police say a driver traveling nearly 100 mph slammed into the car she was riding in.
Arrest warrants filed Thursday charge Dorin Lupas, 33, of Duluth with feticide by vehicle in the first degree, two counts of serious injury by vehicle, racing on highways or streets, reckless driving, and two other traffic offenses.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. on June 20 on Satellite Boulevard near Duluth, where a couple was turning left into a business plaza, according to the warrants.
They say Lupas was driving a 2014 Mercedes-Benz at 94 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Master Police Officer Brock Marks, a spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department, said the couple had no part in what led up to it.
“That couple was just attempting to make a left turn into a business plaza off of Satellite Boulevard, just going about their day as any normal citizen would on the roadway,” Marks said.

The woman was 20 to 24 weeks pregnant, according to the warrants.
They say her injuries in the crash caused the unborn child’s death.
She broke her thigh, her lower leg, her ankle and her pelvis. The man in the car with her broke a bone in his lower back.
Marks said Georgia’s racing law reaches further than most drivers assume.

“The racing statute in the state of Georgia doesn’t just involve two or more vehicles racing simultaneously,” Marks said. “It can also be contributed to a high rate of acceleration or an exhibition of speed.”
The car’s own crash data shows the gas pedal was pressed all the way down for three seconds, according to the warrants.
Lupas stayed at the scene and suffered minor injuries, police said. He is out on bond.
“We make sure that justice is served for that family that loss of life came from,” Marks said.
