Friends and family remember woman gunned down by masked man at Gwinnett car dealership

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A community is mourning the loss of one of their own after a 34-year-old woman was gunned down while at work.

Courtney Owens was shot and killed at the Royal Court Motors dealership, where she worked, at the intersection of Centerville Highway and Annistown Road around 4 p.m.

Channel 2′s Elizabeth Rawlins spoke to a family member over the phone who issued a statement on behalf of the entire family.

“She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and she had a heart of gold,” said the family member who wanted to remain anonymous.

Investigators say they received the initial call late Friday afternoon from witnesses. They believe the suspect walked in, shot Owens and then took off. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear but investigators say Owens was likely targeted.

“It’s a possibility that the suspect may have been known to the victim and or the business itself,” said Cpl. Ryan Winderweedle with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Courtney’s friends and colleagues took to social media over the weekend, expressing their grief and remembering her with pictures and videos.

According to social media, Owens has worked at the dealership for at least a year. Investigators are still searching for her killer as family and friends are desperate to know who did this and why.

“There are no words to express how much she was loved and will be missed,” said the anonymous family member.
