Gwinnett man vanished 5 days ago after going to meet woman he met online, police say

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County police are searching for a 21-year-old man who has been missing for five days after he went to visit a woman he met on the Internet.

Channel 2′s Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson was at Gwinnett County police headquarters Thursday, where police said Leondre Flynt’s GMC Canyon truck was found in Detroit. He had just bought the truck last month.

Johnson spoke to family members who said Flynt is not one to ignore his family and his job.

“This is so much not like him not to get in contact,” his cousin Shannon Wilson said.

Family members said he wouldn’t just walk away from his longtime job as a tree foreman.

“He been at the same job for the last three years I believe, and never missed a day at work,” Wilson said.

Video from Saturday morning shows Flynt leaving his Loganville home with a change of clothes and a bag around his shoulder. His family said he was to Buckhead for a date.

“He met up with some young lady off of the internet. And since then, nobody had been in contact with him,” Wilson said.

Detectives have now launched a missing person investigation. Police got a clue this week when his truck showed up in another state.

“OnStar found the car in Detroit, Michigan, but by the time the Detroit police got there, the vehicle was no longer in that location,” Wilson said.

Police haven’t said that they believe foul play is involved, but Flynt’s family is worried that someone may have done something to him.

“I think he’s in dire need of help,” Wilson said. “There’s no more activity on the phone. There’s no more activity on his work phone.”

The family said the truck was not found abandoned in Michigan, but they haven’t been able to make contact with whoever was driving it.

Anyone who knows anything about Flynt’s whereabouts is asked to call police.
