Driver shot, killed on I-85; shooter still on the loose

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police say a man was shot and killed while he drove on I-85 in Gwinnett County and they are still searching for the shooter.

The victim has been identified as Steven Vallego, 31.

Police said a Black man in a 2010s model Chevrolet Malibu or Impala was travelling in the far right lane as Vallejo was exiting onto Indian Trail Lilburn Road. Police said the suspect shot at Vallejo's car, hitting him. He died at the hospital.

The suspect then hit the southbound Indian Trail exit sign and kept going.

Police said the car likely has extensive front-end damage.

Police are unsure about the motive for the shooting, but said it could be road rage.
