Driver dead, multiple people injured after car crashes into Gwinnett County mobile home

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police say a car crashed into a mobile home in Gwinnett County Sunday night, killing the driver and narrowly missing the seven family members who were inside.

The incident happened at Countryside Village in Buford late Sunday evening.

Channel 2′s Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson was in Buford Monday, where he talked to the family who will now be forced to find a new home.

Daniel Morales said he was inside one of the home’s bedrooms with his 3-year-old son when the car plowed into the home around 9 p.m.

“We thought it was an earthquake because everything was moving,” Morales said. “This has changed my life. You have your house and the next day... my family doesn’t have nay clothes. I don’t know what to do.”

Morales’ brother-in-law, Daniel Franco, said he’s worried about his three nieces and nephews, who were terrified by the experience.

“My nephew was crying and yelling, like, ‘What is going on?’” Franco said.

Franco said he’s trying to help his family go through what they can salvage and take them to his uncle’s home. Morales said it will be hard to keep the kids at school.

“The kids have to go to school, and my uncle lives like 35 minutes from here, so, like, it’s really hard.”

Police identified the driver as 36-year-old Jordan Gonzalez. Neighbors said he lived with his family across the street from the house that police say he hit.

The city has declared the home unsafe.

“Now, I’m worried where she’s going to stay, and where we’re going to stay,” Franco said.

Franco said that for now, they’re just trying to be thankful that everyone inside the home survived.

The family has set up a GoFundMe.

Police are investigating whether or not speed was a factor in the crash.
