Grandmother dies week after DeKalb house fire claimed lives of 5 family members

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County grandmother has died one week after a house fire killed five of her family members.

Family confirmed to Channel 2′s Christian Jennings that Diane Regular Lay died Tuesday morning.

Lay had been at Grady Hospital since the Dec. 14 fire with second- and third-degree burns.

Five people did not survive that night: Terryona Regular, her two daughters Angel and Ailyah; and her two uncles, Timothy Regular and Pedro Coney.

The fire started just after midnight at Lay’s home on Janet Lane in DeKalb County. Ten people were inside the house at the time, according to fire investigators.

“They were saying there’s kids in there. That’s all I heard, and I’m going to hear that the rest of my life,” neighbor Willie Hodges told Jennings.

GoFundMe accounts have been set up for the Regular family and Diane Lay.
