‘Glue for a lot of people:’ Beloved Cobb wife, mother hit and killed while walking her dog

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Friends are remembering a beloved wife and mother who was hit and killed while walking her dog in Cobb County.

The crash happened at Wooten Lake Road and Glendale Parkway. Police know who the driver is, but he hasn’t been charged.

Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell spoke exclusively to those who knew Veronica Miller best.

“I just couldn’t believe it. Just a senseless thing. Just to go walk your dog? You can’t even walk your dog?” Alanna Blake-Lawlor said.

It’s a tragic loss that friends near and far can’t even begin to process.

“She was just doing something that she did everyday. Just walking down the street. It’s just unbelievable,” Suzy Richardson said.

There are more questions than answers about what happened along Glendale Parkway. Police said a driver hit Miller and her dog Saturday morning. Miller didn’t survive her injuries. Her dog is OK.

“It’s probably one of the hardest losses I’ve ever had,” Miller’s friend Gloria Avillar said. “She was their glue. She was a glue for a lot of people.”

To her friends and family, Veronica was just “V,” a wife, mother and active member of her community who led her life with a heart always to give.

“She would rescue and foster dogs,” Richardson said.

“V was involved with something called footsteps for the cure which is a local breast cancer walk,” Avillar said. “We were also involved with the Susan G. Komen breast cancer walks.”

As friends and family member Miller’s life, they are hugging their families a little tighter.

“Y’all have to know I love you, because we never know. The simplest things,” Blake-Lawlor said.

Miller was Irish and had a large community of Irish friends that lived here in Atlanta. They lit candles in Miller’s memory over the weekend and will likely plan an event in the future. Miller’s funeral is scheduled for this week.
