Georgia Power crews assessing outages in metro Atlanta as strong winds continue

Thousands of people across north Georgia remain without power after a line of wintry mix and gusty winds moved through Monday.

As of 11:45 a.m. Monday morning, approximately 45,000 customers are without power according to Georgia Power’s Online Outage Map.

The largest amounts are in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties.

Repairs are underway and additional crews have been called in.

“There are definitely going to be downed wires. People need to be especially careful if they see downed wires,” a company spokesman told Channel 2 Action News.

The problem remains the strong wind gusts, which have reached 40 mph. Georgia Power said it is unsafe for their workers to work in high winds.

“Winds are continuing to howl. It has to be safe for the crews to start working.”

People who come across downed wires are asked to call 911 and GA Power to report them.

Here are the counties seeing the highest number of customers without power.

  • Gwinnett: 7,681
  • Fulton: 4,280
  • DeKalb: 2,686
  • Oconee: 1,756
  • Henry County: 1,205
