ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation will not shut down a two-mile stretch of Interstate 285 in southwest Atlanta this weekend.
Triple Team Traffic’s Mike Shields has learned that GDOT is postponing the full closure between MLK Jr. Drive and Cascade Road.
The closure had been scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, but will not happen because of the weather. Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says scattered showers and storms will develop Saturday and continue on Sunday.

The I-285 closures started back in May and are connected to GDOT’s massive project to rebuild the entire west wall of I-285 from south Fulton up to Cobb County.
These full closures could happen up to 40 times over the next three years as part of the I-285 rebuild.
