SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — Georgia drivers will have a little cheaper gas after Governor Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency and ordered the suspension of the gas tax.
Drivers are paying around $4.19 a gallon, which is up from $2.90 from one year ago.

Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach talked to Georgians purchasing gas in the city of South Fulton Monday afternoon shortly before Governor Kemp announced the gas tax suspension.

“Now that is’ getting colder, I don’t have to go out as much. I’m slowing down, trying to consolidate my routes, with grass slowing down,” Victor Johnson owner of a landscaping company told Channel 2.
Many drivers said that they are bringing lunch to work and cutting time on the roads, anything to stop from driving so much. One saying it was too expensive to simply ride around.
One mother said that she will have to pay instead of driving less.
“I can’t. How? I can’t change my habits. It has to be done regardless. It’s a way of life at this point,” said Shanise Hamilton, a mother with one child and is expecting her second child.
The suspension of the Georgia gas tax begins Tuesday, September 29. It will be valid for 30 days ending October 29, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
