BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — Higher gas prices have some metro Atlanta drivers changing how often they get behind the wheel.

AAA says demand and higher oil prices are contributing to the recent increase at the pump.
The average price of gas is now 11 cents higher per gallon than it was last week and about $1 more than it was a year ago, according to AAA.
At a Chevron on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road in Brookhaven, regular unleaded was selling for $3.99 a gallon. Channel 2 Action News found the same price at nearby Shell and BP stations.
AAA says it costs nearly $60 to fill a standard tank with regular gas at that price.

For some drivers, that’s enough to change their routines.
“I used to drive a lot. I mean from here, take my wife out with family.. we used to go to the mall. We cut everything down,” DeKalb County resident Aziz Huq said.
Another resident, Cameron Collins, said he has also cut back on driving.
“I don’t go out too many places no more, I just sit in the house. Go to work, come home, I might grab some food but other than that, I’m sitting in the house,” Collins said.
AAA recommends several ways drivers can improve fuel efficiency, including slowing down. The organization says driving faster than 50 mph can significantly reduce fuel efficiency.
Drivers can also save by paying cash at stations that charge more for credit card purchases, combining errands and keeping their vehicles properly maintained.
