SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — The Sandy Springs City Council will discuss a new jail agreement to transport inmates to Lumpkin County.
The discussion will happen during Tuesday’s council meeting.
“The City of Sandy Springs does not have its own jail facility for the holding of people sentenced to jail terms by the Sandy Springs Municipal Court,” documents say. “Because of this, the City has maintained an intergovernmental agreement with other law enforcement agencies over the years that are able to provide housing for prison inmates, such as the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Alpharetta Police Department, for the holding of prison inmates.”

According to documents from the city council, the agreement would renew an agreement have inmates sent to the Lumpkin County Detention Center.
Approval of the agreement would be a renewal of the contract Sandy Springs had with Lumpkin County already, which expired on May 31, city documents show.
The agreement was first made in June 2024.
Should the agreement be approved by council, it would cost the city $55 per day per inmate to have them held in custody there, plus any medical expenses not covered by the jail’s medical provider.
Approval of the agreement would serve as a five year term, with renewal options for four of the five years based on performance.
