“Our thoughts are with Jeff and their children and the entire Carter family,” the presidential library said.

Jeff and Annette were married for more than 45 years. They have three children together.

Her cause of death was not released.

One of Annette’s sons, Jeremy, died in 2015 at the age of 28.

Jimmy Carter announced the death of his grandson, Jeremy Carter, during a Sunday church service just weeks after announcing that his brain was cancer-free.

Carter told the crowded Plains church that his grandson hadn’t been feeling well and laid down to take a nap at his family’s home in Peachtree City. His mother, Annette, checked on him later and discovered his heart had stopped.

He died the next day at the hospital.

Jeremy’s brother, Josh, wrote in an emotional blog post in 2015 that he died of a heart attack. He said Annette performed CPR until the paramedics came.
