Former GA sheriff is 1 of 3 men arrested in arson investigation

SHILOH, Ga. — A third person was arrested in connection with an arson investigation in West Georgia.

According to the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire, Justin “Jake” Johnson, 37, a former sheriff of Talbot County, Georgia, was recently arrested.

Two other men were previously arrested in connection with the case: Jimmy Buchanan, 70; and Wallace Copeland, 62, both of Manchester.

On November 3, 2023, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to assist in the investigation of a house fire that happened on Turkey Roost Lane in Shiloh, Georgia.

The three men were arrested following a multi-agency investigation and each was charged with two counts of arson and one count of conspiracy to commit arson.

The case was worked along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia State Patrol, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, and the Manchester Police Department.
