Family makes plea for information in SW Atlanta shooting

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A family is asking for someone to come forward with information to help catch the person who killed their loved one.

Markeal Johnson, 20, was found by police in the staircase of  the Deerfield Garden Apartment Complex on Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta last week.

On Sunday night, Johnson's family held a candlelight vigil in the stairwell where he died.

The family believes someone at the apartment complex has information about the shooting.

"Would you please come forth, ya know, I know that you don't want this on your conscience," Marzetta Edmonson, the victim's cousin said.

Police said found multiple shell casings, meaning several shots could have been fired at Johnson.

Investigators believe Johnson tried to run from his killer, but collapsed and died.

"Why you kill my baby?" asked Johnson's mother, Yolanda. "He didn't deserve to die."

Police have no suspects, and no motive.
