Driver who thought officers were after him crashes car, survives 40-foot jump off bridge

ATLANTA — There is a search for a man who ran from police and survived a 40-foot jump off a bridge.

It happened Thursday after 1 a.m. along Interstate 85 at Lindbergh Drive in Buckhead.

Atlanta police said officers were initially trying to stop a driver speeding along I-85. Officials said that’s when another driver crashed, thinking officers were after him, and started running.

“(He) then jumped off the I-85 bridge, approximately 40 foot drop down below,” Capt. William Ricker said.

Police said the man ran into the woods.

Officers found a gun under the bridge and drugs in his car.
