Demaryius Thomas: Funeral, procession taking place this weekend in Georgia

ATLANTA — Funeral plans for former Georgia Tech standout and NFL star Demaryius Thomas has been announced for this weekend.

The 33-year-old passed away at his Roswell home on Dec. 9. Police said he died from cardiac arrest.

Thomas played high school football at West Laurens High School near Dublin before signing on to play college football Georgia Tech. He went on to play for the NFL, winning Super Bowl 50. He also made five consecutive Pro Bowls.

A procession will take place in Dublin, Georgia in Laurens County Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The city of Dublin posted the plans on its Facebook page:

“His family has asked your City honor him by lining Jackson Street and Bellevue Avenue as his procession travels from Dudley Funeral Home to West Laurens High School. Thomas’ mother has requested wearing his favorite colors - blue and green or orange and blue,” the city wrote.

Dublin police will assist along the route.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the West Laurens High School Gymnasium at 3692 Highway 257 in Dexter. Reverend Carlos Jones will deliver the eulogy. Public viewing will be on Saturday, 10-11 AM at the West Laurens High School Gymnasium.

Interment will be a private family ceremony.

“‘Bay Bay’ will always be remembered for his infectious smile which was a reflection of his kind heart, his compassion and his outreach to those in his home community, and children everywhere including those in the Broncos Boys and Girls Club and those he worked with in his annual football camp,” an online tribute posted.
