They think Dr. King would be proud that they are living out their dream.

“It doesn’t click that we own this place sometimes,” Bazemore said. “It’s like, ‘I’m going to work today.’ But you own the building!”

Boucan and Bazemore started working at the shop -- which was originally a Bruster’s -- when they were in high school. Boucan was 16 when she got the job as a scooper and Bazemore was just 15 when she followed in her big sister’s footsteps They both loved the work. Bazemore was even made a crew supervisor when she was 17.

Bazemore said it’s all about loving what you do.

“Ice cream is fun. Ice cream is delicious,” Bazemore said. “You can’t go wrong anytime someone mentions ice cream! People get excited!”

The commercial for Double Scoop, which opened in October 2019, says it all.

“We used to work here as teenagers,” the girls say in unison. “And now we own it.”
