Brookhaven increasing security after police say man tried to kidnap woman walking dog

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who tried to kidnap a woman walking her dog in Brookhaven.

Police said they responded to the area of Citadel Drive and Beech Haven Road on Sunday after getting a 911 call about a woman screaming.

Officers found the woman, who said she was walking her dog when a black sedan passed her driving very slowly. The car turned on the Beech Haven Drive and stopped.

The victim said that as she walked by the car, she was attacked from behind by a man she didn’t know. She said he tried to pull her towards his car.

The victim fought her way free but sustained minor scratches and bruises on her knees as the suspect dragged her. After she fought him off, the suspect sped off in the car.

The suspect is described as a Black man with light skin who weighs 180 to 200 pounds, is around 5 feet 7 inches tall and was wearing a gray shirt, tan shorts and green underwear.

Channel 2′s Tom Regan was in Brookhaven Friday, where the president of the neighborhood association said the incident is horrifying.

“We are extremely surprised and trying to aggressively help the police address this,” Larry Hoskins said. She did exactly what she needed to do, because if she got in the car, who knows what would have happened.”

Hoskins said private security will increase neighborhood patrols.

Neighbors who regularly walk their dogs in the area said what happened is scary.

“It’s really awful,” Delia Champion said. “You have to be careful, no matter where you live.”
