DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb Public Health reported more mosquito traps in the county had tested positive for West Nile Virus, bringing the total to 14.
The news came Wednesday, with health officials saying mosquito surveillance traps tested positive for WNV in the areas of:
- 30032 Unincorporated DeKalb (Belvedere Park, Candler-McAfee)
- 30058 Lithonia, Stonecrest
- 30084 Tucker
- 30341 Unincorporated DeKalb, Chamblee
To date, DeKalb County officials said there have not been any human cases of WNV infection in the county.

However, state health officials said at least one Georgian had died from the virus as of Sept. 16.
DeKalb Public Health said positive tests were reported at traps in the county on July 22, Aug. 17, Aug. 18, Aug. 24 and Sept. 11.
Channel 2 Action News has reported on cases reported in other parts of Georgia and the metro Atlanta area, including Chatham County on the Georgia coast and Fulton County in the metro.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says West Nile infections typically occur during mosquito season, from summer into the fall.
Reported illnesses usually peak in late August and early September.
According to the CDC, most people infected with the virus do not show symptoms. Others may have mild flu-like symptoms or a rash.
The best protection against West Nile is preventing mosquito bites.
