Jovita Moore’s son bravely competes in cross country championship days after mother’s death

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A day after Channel 2′s Jovita Moore was laid to rest, her son bravely competed in the state cross country championships.

Moore died from an aggressive form on brain cancer on Oct. 28.

On Saturday, the family shared a photo of her son, Josh Griffith, smiling in his track uniform. The 16-year-old is competing in the Georgia High School State Cross Country Championships for Chamblee High School.

“It has been a very difficult past several days for our family,” his uncle, Chris Griffith, wrote. “His mom would be so proud of him. This shows how resilient and mentally tough he is. Way to go, Josh!”

In the photo, Josh is surrounded by his father, grandfather and cousin.

Moore was laid to rest in a private funeral service on Friday. She is survived by Josh and her daughters Shelby and Lauren.
