Several counties will be under a heat advisory on Thursday as the heat builds up over the next few days in Georgia.
The heat advisory will go from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for dangerous heat index up to 108 degrees. The advisory counties include Butts, Clarke, Greene, Jasper, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Upson and Walton as well as Cleburne and Randolph counties in Alabama.
The actual temperatures will be in the mid-to-upper 90s. Parts of our area are likely to hit 100 degrees later this weekend. And there isn’t much rain in the forecast to bring relief from the heat.

While Clayton County is not under a heat advisory, the Clayton County Schools District is taking precautions when it comes to the heat. The district has canceled all outdoor activities during the school day. That includes physical education classes, recess and other outdoor activity classes.
Channel 2 Action News will update this story if other districts also make changes to their outdoor plans.
