Trinity Christian School helps local merchants who lost their businesses to a fire

COWETA COUNTY, Ga — Not a day passes that Laura Gibson doesn’t come by to look. It was hers. “It’s tough. It’s always a reminder of what happened. That day was really traumatic for us.”

It has been a month since the Heirloom Market Company and Bakeshop along GA 54 in Coweta County was destroyed by fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt that day, but Gibson and more than four dozen artisans who ran shops in the market lost everything, easily into the millions of dollars. And the one make it or break it holiday event of the year is right around the corner. “It’s huge. It’s actually our biggest sales day of the entire year,” Gibson said.

The annual Christmas Open House is set for Saturday, Nov. 5, only there’s no longer a house to open. But then the neighbor stepped up.

“There were a lot of people here that said, ‘what can we do? We want to do something,’” Mark Anthony said. Anthony is the head of school at Trinity Christian that sits right behind the bakeshop. Trinity will now host the market’s open house on its football field.

Most of the market’s vendors will bring their best wares, and Laura has a sister store that will bake the goodies. As far as Gibson and her merchants are concerned, Trinity Christian saved Christmas.

“It has lifted their spirits. This will be the first time they’ll be able to sell since the fire happened. This is awesome,” Gibson said.

The Heirloom Market Open House at Trinity Christian School’s football field is set for Saturday Nov. 5.  It starts at 9 am.
