COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — The family of an 18-year-old killed in a Newnan police shooting will hold a news conference on Thursday.

Zadarious Dorsey was shot and killed on Oct. 3. The GBI says Dorsey ran from a Newnan police officer after a car was stopped and pulled out a gun. Investigators said the officer ordered him to drop the gun before shooting him.

Dorsey’s family has called for answers about the circumstances surrounding his death. Family members questioned why the officer initially followed the vehicle, when emergency lights were activated and when backup was requested.

“He wasn’t no criminal. He was somebody, and I loved him,” Dorsey’s aunt, Angela Brown, told Channel 2 Action News.

The family said Dorsey was a senior at Newnan High School and planned to join the Navy after graduation. The Coweta County NAACP also said it was getting involved in the case.

The family has hired civil rights attorney Ben Crump to represent them.
