Investigators believe the suspect is stealing and selling laptops for cash. He targets businesses after hours.

These are four arrest warrants, and police say even more charges are on the way for Demarquius Smith after police say he broke into seven Cobb County businesses in less than a year.

“It is mind-blowing how someone is clearly targeting law firms,” Michael Urbina said.

Police say Smith stole nearly 20 laptops from two law firms and more from other businesses.

“Our cameras were shut off, or our internet was jammed. He shut off our cameras for a period of about 12 hours give or take,” Urbina said.

Urbina, the owner of Urbina Immigration Law Firm, says Smith tampered with the security camera’s before he stole nine laptops from his firm.

“You cannot come in without a key card. Our doors in our office actually have a fingerprint requirement or a code requirement. Our main concern was any data compromised or clients because we have thousands of clients,” he said.

Urbina says data wasn’t compromised, but the theft did impact operations.

“We had to do a couple of hearings over the phone,” Urbina said.

The laptops were insured, but Urbina says he had to dish out nearly $20,000 to replace them the same day.

Police say Smith broke into another law firm and another business several months later.

“It is very concerning that it’s still going on even though there is information as to who is doing it,” Urbina said.

The second law firm Smith broke into told me their information wasn’t compromised.

Newell checked jail records and discovered Smith was never arrested after any of the burglaries he’s accused of committing in Cobb.

He is in jail right now, though, in another jurisdiction.
