COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A man is under arrest after police say thieves used a ladder to climb into a Cobb County storage unit and steal approximately $8,000 worth of belongings, including designer clothing, televisions, and sensitive personal documents.
The theft happened at Midgard Self Storage, located at 2909 Log Cabin Drive SE.
According to arrest warrants obtained by Channel 2 Action News, the investigation began Aug. 18 after thieves broke into a storage unit overnight.
Investigators say surveillance video shows James Thompson arriving at the facility behind the wheel of a Jeep Wrangler and meeting up with two other men.
Police say the video shows the three men using a ladder to climb into the storage unit before leaving with stolen property.
Thompson has since been arrested in connection with the investigation. It remains unclear whether the two other men seen in the surveillance footage have been charged.
The victim, a 31-year-old truck driver, told investigators he typically visits his storage unit every couple of months.
When he returned, he discovered several valuable items missing, including three bins filled with designer clothing and shoes valued at approximately $5,000, a 75-inch television valued at $1,000, and an 80-inch television valued at $1,000.
Police say the thieves also stole a filing cabinet containing personal documents, including the victim’s birth certificate and Social Security card.

Channel 2’s Michael Seiden visited the storage facility and spoke with customers about the theft.
One woman, who asked not to be identified, said she wasn’t surprised to learn how the thieves allegedly got inside.
“Because in the storage unit, the tops don’t have ceilings, so it is easy if you’re able to, you know, stand up on top of something. You can see into other units,” she said.
The woman said she had always felt her belongings were secure but acknowledged the incident has changed how she thinks about storage unit security.
“I’ve always thought my unit was pretty secure, but we’ll probably put more effort into making sure that it is moving forward,” she said.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to Midgard Self Storage to ask about the facility’s security measures and whether any changes are planned following the theft, but had not received a response as of Tuesday afternoon.
It is unclear whether any of the stolen property has been recovered or whether additional arrests are expected.
