MARIETTA, Ga. — Marietta Schools Superintendent Grant Rivera will use his performance bonus to cover the costs of college applications for the district’s high school seniors.
The district announced Rivera would cover the application fees for all of Marietta High School for the ninth year in a row on Monday.
Rivera said he will bring his personal credit card to Marietta High School on Oct. 9 to pay application fees as seniors submit their early action or early decision college applications.

“This bonus may have my name on it, but it reflects the work of our teachers, staff, and students,” Rivera said. “Paying an application fee is one way I can tell a senior: We believe in you, and we want you to have every opportunity to take your next step.”
The school district said Rivera first used his bonus to cover application fees in 2017 and that the offer is extended to every senior at Marietta High School.
“For students applying to several colleges, covering one fee can make another school possible and give them a reason to start early,” the district said.
Any of the funds left over from Rivera’s bonus, after covering the applications, will be donated to the Marietta Schools Foundation.
The application event at Marietta High starts at 11 a.m. on Oct. 9.
