Metro Atlanta neighbors preparing their homes for holiday arctic blast

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Some Cobb County homes are already prepped and ready ahead of this week’s dangerously cold weather.

This is unchartered territory for many folks in the Metro Atlanta area, who are not used to shopping for supplies to protect their homes during extreme temperatures.

Channel 2′s Elizabeth Rawlins spoke to one homeowner, who says he watched a YouTube video to learn how to cover and protect his pipes and his outdoor pool.

This holiday and winter season involves a major learning curve for Southerners, who normally equate the “extreme cold” to dripping their faucets.

However, pipes can still freeze if temperatures drop below 20 degrees for an extended amount of time.

It’s all about keeping your pipes warm, so if you’re cold in areas of your home like your basement or garage, so are your pipes.

So whether or not you are at home, don’t let your thermostat drop below 55 degrees.
