KENNESAW, Ga. — BlazeSports America will host Georgia’s first USA Wheelchair Football League tournament, starting on Saturday, in Kennesaw.
Eight teams from across the United States will compete in the two-day event at Town Center Mall.
The tournament is free and open to the public. BlazeSports America, a nonprofit organization established following the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, aims to expand competitive athletic opportunities for adults with physical disabilities.

The USA Wheelchair Football League is a program of Move United, which is supported in part through a grant from an NFL-Bob Woodruff Foundation Salute to Service partnership.
The Georgia-based BlazeSports Atlanta Falcons team will compete in the tournament. In August, the team made its USA Wheelchair Football League debut at a tournament in Chicago, finishing fourth overall.
That finish marked the strongest debut by a new league team since 2022.

Dawn Churi, who serves as the executive director of BlazeSports America, said the tournament in Georgia is important for the sport, and the community.
“Hosting Georgia’s first wheelchair football tournament is a milestone moment for BlazeSports and for the growth of adaptive sports across the Southeast,” Churi said. “To bring this level of competition to Atlanta during football season is incredibly special. It allows our athletes to compete at a high level, represent their community with pride and showcase just how fast, physical and exciting wheelchair football is.”
In addition to the local host team, seven visiting teams will participate in the competition. Those competitors are traveling to Georgia from California, Massachusetts, Montana, New York, North Carolina, Texas and Louisiana.
“Wheelchair football is still a growing adaptive sport, so being part of a team that is helping expand the game in Georgia is really meaningful,” Christina Young, a member of the BlazeSports Atlanta Falcons team, said. “Now, having the opportunity to compete against other teams in our own community makes it even more special. We hope this tournament introduces more people to adaptive sports overall and encourages more athletes to get involved.”
BlazeSports said the games will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 3 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 4 at Town Center Mall in Kennesaw.
