1 arrested in armed robbery at Town Center Mall, 2 still on the run, police say

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County police said one man is in custody after an armed robbery at Town Center Mall Thursday afternoon.

Three people were accused of robbing a jewelry store. During the robbery, one suspect was shot by a security guard. An employee was shot in the foot by the suspect.

Police said 24-year-old Marquavis Wilson was dropped off at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital later in the day with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Two suspects are still on the run.

Police said they were initially called to the mall for a possible active shooter. When they arrived, they learned that three people wearing masks had robbed A&M Custom Jewelry at gunpoint.

The suspects broke into a display cabinet and took custom watches before fleeing the scene, police said.

Channel 2′s Chris Jose spoke with customers and employees of the mall. They told him they heard a series of pops, and they all ran for cover.

“I heard some distant shots. I was on the upper level of the mall and I saw some people running in the opposite direction. So we just ended up going to the back of the store and barricaded the store with boxes and everything,” shopper Patrick Rogers said.

“My first instinct was to grab my kid and run. So, we just ran. We ended up at one of the exits. And Rue 21 actually took us into one of their back rooms, and we stayed there until we heard the all-clear,” Shopper Areli Rojas said.

“Were you scared in there?” Jose asked Rojas.

“When we ran, there was a bunch of people running with us. Yeah,” Rojas said.

Police evacuated the mall and continue to search for the three robbers. The mall has been closed for the night.
