The Atlanta Lyric Theatre announced the news in a letter to its friends.

While other organizations have had similar experiences, the theatre said they experienced a notable dip in overall attendance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The theatre also said they tried to overcome the challenge over the past several months but faced financial strain to even maintain the current season.

“Despite our best efforts, we have arrived at the point where we must face facts: our financial resources are not sufficient to finish the current season, or embark on the next, which would have been our 43rd,” the theatre’s board said.

The board said the theatre will not present the last two shows, “Pippin” and “Best of Broadway”, and will also not present the final two shows of the Cabaret Series.

Tickets for Season 42 will not be refunded and the monthly donations to the Spotlight society were canceled on March 3.

The theatre’s board thanked their subscribers and donors for their patronage and support.

“Our greatest disappointment is that we will no longer be able to bring you the shows that you have enjoyed for so many years. We hope you will continue to support other arts organizations in the community. They need you now, more than ever,” the theatre’s board said.
