2 hospitalized, 2 firefighters treated after kitchen fire at Cobb market

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Two employees were hospitalized Thursday after a fire erupted inside a mercado in Cobb County.

Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services said the fire was reported around 11:30 a.m. at a local mercado with an attached kitchen in the 7000 block of Mableton Parkway.

Fire officials said the blaze started in the kitchen. Employees initially tried to put out the fire but were unsuccessful.

Firefighters quickly arrived and began extinguishing the flames while also searching the building for possible victims.

Everyone had evacuated the building before firefighters arrived, officials said.

The fire was extinguished, and crews remained at the scene working on salvage and overhaul operations.

Officials said two employees were taken to a hospital for smoke-related injuries and two firefighters were also treated at the scene for heat- and exertion-related injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
