Unborn baby killed, mother in critical condition after drunk driver crashes into them, police say

MORROW, Ga. — Morrow Police say a woman is in critical condition and her unborn baby was killed after a drunk driver crashed into them early Sunday morning.

Police said they responded to a crash on Jonesboro Road around 2:30 a.m. They said 32-year-old Jeffrey Cordell Fulks, of Morrow, was driving south in a 2017 Ford F150 pickup truck and 19-year-old Emanuel Cortes Acoltzi, of Forest Park, was driving west on Lake Harbin Road crossing Jonesboro Road in a 2015 Chevrolet Cruise. Ashley Acosta, also 19, was his passenger.

Police said Fulks was driving under the influence of alcohol and failed to stop for a red light, slamming into Acoltzi’s car.

Acosta was seven months pregnant. Her unborn child was killed in the crash. Acosta is in critical condition with life-threatening inures. Acoltzi and Fults were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Fulks was arrested at the scene and on charges of first-degree vehicular feticide, serious injury by vehicle, driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Fulks remains in custody at the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Jail, and additional charges are possible.
