Officers said they were called out to the home of 34-year-old William Powell around 2:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day when someone there called to file a missing person report. The caller said Powell left the home on the 2800 block of Ridgeview Trail near Jonesboro to meet a man he met on a dating site.

Police learned that Powell took an Uber to meet the man at a hotel. The people who reported Powell missing did not know the date’s name or the name of the hotel.

Police described Powell as a 5-11, 200 lb white male with green eyes and brown hair. They said he was wearing a black shirt with black suede lettering. He has both of his ears pierced and a tattoo across the both of his wrists that when put together reads “Suffer Strong”.

On social media, his sister described Powell as a giving man with a heart of gold.

“He won a $100 gift card and instead of keeping it to himself, he went and bought essentials for the homeless with it,” Amanda Benson wrote on Facebook.

Clayton County police are asking anyone who may have seen Mr. Powell or has information about him to contact the police department at 770-477-3747.
