RIVERDALE, Ga. — A longtime Riverdale councilman resigned without notice last month, leaving the city with the minimum number of members needed to hold meetings.

Former Councilman Kenny Ruffin served on the council for 23 years. His departure means the council needs all four remaining members present because the city charter requires at least four council members for a quorum.

City officials told Channel 2’s Tom Jones that Ruffin moved from his home and no one had heard from him.

An’cel Davis with Concern Citizens 4 Riverdale said Ruffin’s abrupt resignation shocked people and led to speculation.

“There’s been speculation about health, maybe some internal things that’s going on,” Davis said.

The reasons why Ruffin said he left, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News at 5 p.m.
