‘It was a tough decision:’ Mother describes turning her son in on murder charges

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies say a murder suspect is in the Clayton County Jail thanks to his mother. They say she turned in her son, who was wanted for shooting and killing a woman in her car.

Hashun Jordan, 32, is accused of getting into an argument with Alisha Reed, 34, on Sunday night before shooting her several times. Reed later died at the hospital.

Clayton County deputies went on an extensive manhunt to find Jordan, but they didn’t find him until Tuesday night when his mother, Delores Berry, called Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen and told him where her son would be.

“It was a tough decision,” she said.

She said Jordan called her on Tuesday morning and she encouraged him to turn himself in. She says she was concerned for his safety.

“I said, ‘Shun, it’s best for you to turn yourself in, because you’re wanted worldwide,’” she explained. “I said, ‘The police don’t have to tell you to come here. They can shoot you on the spot.’”

Berry said after that, she called Sheriff Allen to let him know that her son would be at her house to turn himself in that night. She told Jones that Sheriff Allen was the only person she trusted with her son.

“His spirit that Sunday night touched my spirit,” she said.

She says that Allen treated her and Jordan with respect.

“I’m so used to police talking to you like you’re a dog,” Berry explained.

When Jordan got to her home, Allen was there waiting to take him into custody.

“When my son walked through the door he put his hands up. He said, ‘I don’t have no gun. You can search me,’” she said.
